WHY WOULD THE CSU BOARD OF TRUSTEES BE BLATANTLY HYPOCRITICAL ?????.....OR ARE THEY OUT OF TOUCH WITH CALIFORNIA ???????????

Meeting in Long Beach today, the California State University Board of Trustess increased the 2011-2012, student attendance fees, an additional 12%; raising the fees $600.00 per semester, which is $5,472.00, next year; nearly double what it was just two years ago,- and three times as much as it was in 2006.  A stiff, and near prohibitive, increase for many middle class students throughout the CSU system statewide; and a hypocritical decision !   I say that when today - they also  hired a new President for the San Diego State University campus, at a salary of $400,000.00 ! - $100,000.00 more than his predecessor received.  That is an obscene act, at a time when students are struggling to be, and remain - on campus.  Governor Jerry Brown sent a letter of protest about the hiring salary, of the new SDSU President, that is double the salary, of the - "Chief Justice of the United States".  The Board Chairman's response was a feeble, we need to be, "competive", and that it is that it's, "too late", to change the offer.  Wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Mr. Chairman,  you and the Board, can, if you have the  political spine to exercise your governance in the best interest not only of administrators, but the students on our campuses, like I was, three and a half decades ago; set the salary of the newly hired SDSU President, at least $100,000.00 less than what you are agreeing to.  At $300,000.00, he will still be receiving $93,500.00 more than the salary of the Governor of California, and if  he is paid $400,000.00, he will be receiving a salary equal to that of the President of the United States of America.  Why any administrators in a public university system anywhere in the country are paid salaries and benefits, in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, is free enterprise and capitalism run amok; and not only that, but to the detriment of our college students.   Most in the California State University system, are not affluent, or wealthy, but hard working, and industrious, young people, only trying to get a quality third level education that will enable them to succeed in the profession they choose, in an ever increasing competitive world.  If the CSU Board of Trustees will not do the common sense and right thing in this matter, then Governor Brown, the Legislature, or both, should act to freeze the salary and benefits package, at the level of his predecessor's outgoing package.  And should this obscene action on the heels of a 12% fees increase to students stand, a citizen action demanding the resignation or recall, of the CSU Board, needs to be initiated.  California; the United States; the World; are in a severe, and unyielding, Ecomonic, Financial, Crisis - of almost unprecdented magnitude; that our public officials, elected, or appointed, are oblivious and callous enough, to carry out actions like this, at this time, shows how self serving, and out of touch, persons who are not directly affected by the realities they govern, can be.  They need to do the Responsible thing, or step down and let citizens with the common good of California and the mission and purpose of California State University statewide, take their place !!!!!!!!!!!...........Fr.
