WHY IS OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS PLAYING POLITICS WITH THE DEBT CEILING CRISIS ????????????...........

The United States of America, is just twenty two days away from defaulting on the, "Good Faith and Full Credit", of our country, for the unprecedented first time in our national history.  Yet with just three weeks remaining to accomplish a raising in the debt ceiling, that does not cause draconian cuts  in other essential government spending that would drive us into a catastrophic, deeper, recession - partisan politics not sound governance, seems to be the focus of many of our government officials.  A $4 trillion dollar proposal to cut the debt and spending, was dismissed as acceptable, by the Speaker of the House, even after he proposed it, and personally negotiated it with the President.  Why ?  Because the archconservative, right wing, of his Republican Party, including his own House Majority Whip, and the members of the Tea Party, elected in 2010, are unwilling to vote for it.  Now the focus returns to a $2.4 trillion plan, negotiated by the Vice President and the Congressional Leadership earlier this year, or serious consideration on the part of Congress members to pass only a temporary debt ceiling, that would  expire in early 2013, after the Presidential and General Election.  The Good Faith and Full Credit is too precious a hallmark of our American government and nation, to allow purely partisan politics, to determine whether or not we raise the debt ceiling, and address spending and the deficit.  President George Washington, the, "Father of our Country", and the first man to serve as, Chief Executive of the United States, was not a supporter of political parties.  His opposition to forming political parties was rooted in the belief that they would create just such impasses and polarization, as this current critical situation shows, does happen.  Politics and personal agendas, that do not represent the best interest of the American People as a whole, need to be banished;  and the focus of all our elected and appointed leaders, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, whomever - needs to be only what will soundly, fairly, justly, and equally, serve the common good of the United States of America.  Fringe politics left, or right, will not achieve that.  Only valuing and arriving at compromise agreements on the issues confronting us, in the, 'Moderate Middle', will allow us to accomplish what is best and necessary for our country and our role in the wider world.  Please God, our government leaders will enact a sound policy in regards to the debt ceiling, that is not held hostage to partisan prerogatives...........With Hope And Optimism For A Bipartisan, More Than Political Responses To All Our Nation's Needs,   Fr.  Troy
