THE UNOFFICIAL END OF SUMMER HOLIDAY WEEKEND DAY ONE IN THE USA...........

Saturdays, for those who maintain a Monday -Friday work week, is a day to divert, relax, recreate, and socialize.  Summer Saturdays are times for parties, picnics, fun, and games.  In the post World War II era,from Memorial Day to Labor Day, in the United States of America.  So here we are in 2011, A.D., experiencing the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, most Americans enjoying one of our many three day weekends, that consist not just of a normal Friday night, and Saturday, and Sunday day and night, but a bonus day Monday, to celebrate.  Except for those who have to work weekends, including holidays, that means an third night to fraternize, socialize, go out to dinner, or the movies and in Sacramento, see a River Cats baseball game, one last production at the Music Circus, or enjoy a barbeque and swimming party later, as well as earlier.  But as I always proclaim at the start of summer and remind you on holidays, the one thing on this three day Labor weekend, any of us take a vacation from is God, our Faith, and attendance at Church.  Sure you can rationalize or self excuse yourself, but that does not dismiss your Catholic-Christian discipleship opportunity, as well as, the divine and ecclesial command you live under, to be present and participating in Church on the Lord's Day; Labor Day weekend, or otherwise.  Put your need to be at Sunday services, Mass, Communion, or Worship Services in this light.  Think as you are enjoying your holiday weekend and considering blowing off attendance at Church, the thousands, to millions, on the East coast of the USA, just last weekend, who were prevented from being in Church, or hardly aAll of us as nywhere else, due to Hurricane Irene.  All of us as Christians and Americans, can be grateful for the accessibilty, and availability, of having the opportunity this Labor Day weekend to join with the congregation of our choice, to share in the Prayer, Worship, and Ministry, of being Jesus' Church...........Fr.  Troy
