OUR WEEK THREE SESSION "UNDERSTANDING THE REVISED MASS TEXTS" FOCUSES ON, 'THE INTRODUCTORY RITES' TONIGHT...........

Interested and conscientious OLOL parishioners will attend the third weekly session of the current 'Faith Seeking Understanding' adult faith formation series, "Understanding The Revised Mass Texts, in the Parish Hall, at 6:30 p.m.  18-24 parishioners have been present the previous two weeks, as we look at the individual components of the Mass in its four parts.  Tonight we will take the Introductory Rites of the Mass under consideration.  As author Father Paul Turner describes the Introductory Rites, included is, "Everything that happens from the moment you stand until you sit down for the first time".  Tonight's six pages of our discussion cover everything but Gloria, which we will take under consideration next week.
The Introductory Rites, as part one of the Mass, has four distinct sections, not counting the Gloria.  The Entrance Chant / Opening Song of the Mass; The Sign of the Cross and the Greeting; The Penitential Act; The Collect / Opening Prayer.  On Sundays, Holydays, and other special occassions it is customary for the congregation gathered to sing a hymn or liturgical song at the beginning of Mass.  Otherwise an Entrance Chant, an antiphon taken from a verse of the Bible is recited / chanted by the people.  The translations of the antiphons have been changed, so they will sound slightly different from before.  The wording of the Greeting and Response, and the Penitential Act, have also changed, as have the prayer endings of the Collect / Opening Prayer.  We will be discussing all this at tonight's  Understanding The Revised Mass Texts, session in OLOL Parish Hall, at 6:30 p.m., at which please God, many more parishioners will be present to ready themselves for the Mass as we will celebrated with the new Roman Missal, 3rd Edition, beginning on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27th...........Fr.  Troy
