THE CONTINUING COURAGE OF COLIN POWELL; SOLDIER, GENERAL, NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR, SECRETARY OF STATE, MENTOR...........

There is no doubt citizen Colin Powell, has served this country with fidelity and patriotism.  No one can question his credentials or qualifications as a Soldier, Four Star General, White House Special Assistant, National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Secretary of State, Chairman of America's Promise Foundation, so one does not simply dismiss or dispute the declarations of this exemplary man.  In Orangeburg, South Carolina, General Powell giving the Commencement Address, to the 400 graduates of the state's historically premier African American university, told the students they are graduating at a, "tumultuous time"...within days of a..."Royal Wedding; Papal Beatification; and the KIilling of Osama Bin Laden;" calling him..."the Worst Person on Earth".  Then this astute, experienced, medaled, politically Republican man, declared he is pleased President Obama, "one upped",  Donald Trump, over the, "Birther issue", by releasing his authentic Hawaiian birth certificate.  Yes, General Powell endorsed Barack Obama for President in 2008, but he is a Republican Party member, and is also a man strong enough in his convictions, that he willing to call it as he sees it, politics aside.  This is an example of the continuing courage Colin Powell, citizen, soldier, diplomat, provides our nation in season and out of season.  Bravo, to one of true leaders in the USA today.  A man who could have become President of the United States, and whose unwavering contribution to the betterment of America is unquestionable.  Perhaps statements like the one he made last weekend, will lead us further toward the post partisanship / truth speaking / let's stop playing games approach to politics and governance, that serves the common good, instead of selfish interests...........Fr.  Troy
