OCTOBER MONTH OF THE ROSARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY - IS A TIME OF TRANSITION AND RE-DIRECTION FOR OLOL'S WOMEN'S COUNCIL...........

October the Month of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a traditional month of prayerful devotion to additional and spoecial praying of the Rosary in tandem together, at home or in chiurch, opens today, and for the next thirty one days we will pray the Rosary together communally Mondays through Fridays, at 7:40 a.m., in OLOL Chirch, before our Morning Mass.  Customarily prayed in segments of 5 Mysteries each, designated the Joyful, Glorious, and Sorrowful, Mysteries of the Rosary; Pope John Paul II, added 5 more Mysteries, for a total of 20 Mysteries inclusively, the Mysteries of Light. The Joyful Mysteries are prayed on Mondays and Saturdays; The Sorrowful Mysteries prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays; The Glorious Mysteries on Sundays and Wednesdays; The Luminouos Mysteries on Thursdays.  A decade of the Rosary is composed of 1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be, Prayer, perhaps joined by the Fatima Prayer.  The 5 decades of the Joyful Mysteries are, The Annunciation of the Lord * The Vistiation of Mary and Elizabeth * The Nativity of Jesus Christ * The Presentation of the Lord * The Finding of the Lord Jesus in the Temple * The Sorrowful Mysteries include the 5 decades of, The Agony in the Garden * The Scourging at the Pillar * The Crowning with Thorns * The Carrying of the Cross * The Crucifixion and Death of Christ * The 5 decades of the Glorious Mysteries are The Resurrection * The Ascension * The Descent of the Holy Spirit * The Assumption * and The Coronation  of the Blessed Virgin Mary * and the Luminouos Mysteries are, The Baptism in the Jordan * The Wedding at Cana * The Proclamation of the Kingdom * The Transfiguration * The Institution of the Eucharist *.   During this Month of the Rosary, take time to ponder the events seminal to the story of salvation that form our Catholic-Christian lives, and pray the Rosary.....October 2011 is also bringing new leadership and a parish commitment to reinvigorating the membership of the OLOL Women's Council, our most concrete sign as a community of believers in the role and response Mary the Mother of God, has made to Discipleship in Jesus Christ Her Son.  Aging and a decline in membership, have taken their toll on the ability of the Women's Council to function with the full participation of all the women in the parish.  New members ages 18 - 49, are particularly underrepresented and an inordinate balance of power and performance has resulted.  In coming weeks, a new Women's Council President will be put in place -and all the Women of the OLOL Parish will be encouraged and invited, to take a renewed look at the good work and vital ministry the Council can provide in a selflessly, collegial, and collaborative, interaction with the Parish Leadership Team, the Diocesan Council of Women, and all our parishioners.
The renewal of this ministry, like the renewal of all parish ministries, will help take OLOL forward in a proactive and productive partnership, serving God's Greater Glory and the Common Good.  The sincere desire and unconditional commitment of our parish women to growing, strengthening, and sustaining, this modern day carrying out of Marian Ministry - means Together We Can Make This Happen...........Fr.
