ST. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH - "WHEAT OF CHRIST"...........

St. Ignatius of Antioch, a Bishop and Martyr of the Church, in the late first and early second century, was a prolific and powerful writer of Christian spirituality.  He wrote seven letters on Catholic-Christianity, that I was taught in the seminary, could well have been included in the Canon of Scripture, for the strength of their message.  Along with the Didache, another document of Christian instruction at that time, the Letters of St. Ignatius, are some of the most profound and influential writings in the early Church.  Persecuted by the Emperor Trajan in 107 A.D., he was thrown to the lions and described his impending execution as becoming, "The Wheat of Christ".....OLOL's Faith Seeking Understanding series on the Revised Mass Texts, Week 5, I am teaching tonight has, 'The Profession of Faith', the Nicene Creed and the revised wording, starting with going from the plural, "We Believe", statement throughout to the singular, "I believe".  We will also be discussing word changes such as the revised, "Consubstantial with the Father", in place of, "One in Being with the Father", and removing the words, "By the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary",  with "And by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the Virgin Mary".  It will be a substantial discussion given the multiplicity of word provisions.  The Parish Altar Edition of the New Roman Missal has arrived at last, as we prepare for the promukgation of its usage on Sunday November 27th, The First Sunday of Advent...........Fr.  Troy
