WICKILEAKS : FREEDOM OF INFORMATION OR TREASON AND INVASION OF PRIVACY ?..........

This past week the USA and the World has been rife with news of the Wickileaks release of tens of thousands documents involving diplomatic relations.  Julian Assunage, the founder of Wickileaks has come under major attack for leaking to the media these secret and sensitive, transcripts.  Swexen, were he headquarters his Wickileaks operation, because of their very liberal publishing and broadcasting laws, is seeking to arrest Assunage and perhaps extradict him for prosecutions,  Others around the world are calling for Assunage to be executed, arguing his actions equal treason.  The release of confidential cables and other data involving international affairs is indeed troubling, if not compromising of diplomats and their honest, unvarnished, assessment of other world leaders and foreign policy initiatives.  Yet is it treasonous and any more threatening to the lives of those persons leaked about, than was the previous American Administration's release of the name of undercover agent Valerie Plame's name to the media, which fully ended the effectiveness of her work and endangered her life ?  Why weren't some of the same political and governmental leaders in the United States who are strennously objecteing to Mr. Assunage's actions, equally making the same response when Vice President Cheney, Karl Rove, and Scooter Libby, did virtually the same thing, with potentially the same consequences ?  If Assunage is being treasonous, then so were they.  These are strong words and treason is a very serious accusation.  Therefore, we must be cautious in not over responding.  The Swedish authorities are handling the legalties of Julian Assunage's actions.  Let us not be precipitous in responding, for in America all persons are innocent until proven guilty.  And we have a contemporary precedent to keep all this in perspective from, the Daniel Ellsberg / Pentagon Papers case.  What lasting adverse affect did it truly have ?  On the positive side it gave the American People greater accountability and transparance of our Presidents, and their governance regarding wars to be fought, as a lasting legacy of the Vietnam War.  So let justice prevail for the actions of Mr. Assunage and Wickileaks, but following the norms of freedom, liberty, and due process, versus a rush to judgment that tramples on fairness and human rights..........In Defense Of Equitable Justice Before Solely Personal Opinions And Politics,   Fr.  Troy
