ST. FRANCIS XAVIER, S.J., PRIEST..........

Born in 1509 A.D., in Spain, St. Francis Xavier joined the Society of Jesus as a young man and became a Priest of Jesus Christ.  As a Jesuit priest he served as a missionary and evangelist to India, Japan, and China. He is an excelent example of Catholic-Christian Discipleship and one of the Saints in Light, during Advent we should seek to follow in trhe footsteps of.  Sacramento Bishop Emeritus tells a delightful Confirmation homily story about St. Francis Assisi versus St. Francis Xavier.  Our beloved Bishop Quinn is named for Francis of Assisi, given his Irish Italian - American ancestry.  The story is that the well known White House Speechwriter, Communications Director, Commentator, and Presidential Candidate, was asked at a town hall meeting during his 1992 Presidential Primaries challenge to President George Herbert Walker Bush, about his Confirmation name.  (Buchanan is a Irish Anerican cradle Catholic).  The question was, What his Confirmation name is ?   Buchanan responded, "Francis".  A follow-up question was asked.  Which  St. Francis did he take the name of ?  And as Bishop Quinn told the story, Pat Buchanan's unequivocal and direct response was, "St. Francis Xavier, not that other radical hippie".  (meaning St. Francis Assisi).  Ha Ha He He..........St. Francis Xavier May We Learn From Your Holy Example,   Fr.  Troy
