THE 6TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS - THIS YEAR THE PENULTIMATE DAY OF 2010..........

This 6th Day of Christmas, is just that - Christmas; without a Memorial or Feast of its own, unlike the last three days or tomorrow.  Next Monday January 3, the tenth day of Christmas will be likewise, as will be Saturday January 8, the fifteenth day, but all the other days in between wil have a Saint of the day to commemorate.  Therefore, we renew our focus today on the spirit of the Christmas Season, as the Calendar Year 2010, arrives at its second to last day.  For those of us Catholic Christian Disciples who are liturgical adherents, and do our most to celebrate the Seasons of the Church Year in their fullness, we welcome the opportunity to refresh and renew our energies on the Holy Birth of the Savior, Jesus The Christ.  Our Sacred Scriptures for this 6th Day of Christmas speak to us of the  Blessed Nativity through the prism of, John the Evangelist and the Gospel of  Luke.  In today's First Reading, 1 John 2 12-17; we read of the Evangelist's summons to fathers and young men, to be stellar in their response to God's Call,  in carrying out their Discipleship of the Christ.   In the Gospel Proclamation, Luke 2 : 36-40; the continuing sharing of the Lukan Infancy Narrative of Jesus as the Savior of the World, we hear part two of yesterday's proclamation.  Following on Simeon's declaration yesterday's Gosapel, today we hear about Anna, a widowed prophetess, who has lived a long life quietly and faithfully in the Temple daily, awaiting the Coming of the Light of the World.  In the Christ Child being presented in the Temple by Mary and Joseph, she finds and testifies to Him.  How will you and I, witness to the spirit and truth of all the Holy Birth and Presentation in the Temple of Jesus represents to us, as God's Christmas People today ?  Perhaps today, we can write and send a few more Christmas cards, or gift in a spiritually significant way, someone - perhaps even someone we do not know.  Or as the Christmas Season proceeds and 2010 draws to a close, perhaps you and I can call a person we haven't spoken to or seen in awhile, especially those at a distance from us, or shut-in from others.  My point is make this for yourself, a Christmas Day, and not just (yawn) aniother day after Christmas, - the day before New Year's Eve.  May the Light and the Word, illuminate your lives today in increasingly spirited ways..........Giving Continuing Christmas Thanks To God For Our Redemptrion,   Fr.  Troy
