AVERTING NATIONAL DEFAULT AND THE DELAYED, POLITICIZED, RAISING OF THE DEBT CEILING...........

For the last several months the politics of 2011, and the upcoming 2012 presidential election campaign, have placed what has until now, in recent decades, the raising of the national debt ceiling, which has taken place on the part of previous Congresses and Administrations, with much less fanfare, in the hornet's nest of central focus in countdown to today, and whether or not we would raise the national debt ceiling, and preserve the full faith and credit of the United States of America.  After months of political wrangling, the Tea Party, versus the mainline Republican Party, versus the Democrats in Congress, and President Obama;  to the 2012 presidential candidates campaign posturing and pronouncements, politics, not governing has been the focus of far too much of addressing this essential issue to the present and future of the financial and economic prerogatives of the United States of America, especially now.  The serious issues surrounding the question of raising the debt ceiling, need to dealt with in a forum where integrity and accountability  , are in the ascendancy; not a political circus of charges and counter charges, where the politics of personal gamesmanship and promotion of selfish and special interests, supplant consideration for the common good of the entire American citizenry.  Necessary changes, concessions, and sacrifice must be shared fairly by all economic classes, not weighted towards some of the few, and inordinately imposed upon still more of the many.  Regretfully, the politicians betraying their chief responsibility as public servants of the common good, risked financial default and the stellar standard of the full faith and credit of the U.S., by holding off an agreement and Congressional votes in the House of Representatives and United States Senate, to within hours of the deadline to go into default, why ?, because partisanship and principle, became the priority of far too many in both parties, the Congress, and the White House.  Compromise, which any Political Science / Government 1A student can tell you, is one of the primary definition of Politics, is treated as a dirty word;  and common sense and civility , instead of being honored and affirmed are trashed with the flick of a hand, as criticisms and condemnations of personal destruction, and one upmanship replace them in the present practice of politics and governance.  Alright, the Congress acted in all but the nick of time, the President has signed the legislation extending the Debt Ceiling.  But please God, we have witnessed a greater act than mere, partisan, political, soap opera, that delays real reform and resolution to the deficiencies facing us, by kicking the can of indifference and unwilligness down the road a short way, until the next day of reckoning.  In coming weeks, we will see more clearly the fruits or demerits, of this newest legislation.  And with magnification due to the 2012 Election Campaign, whether or not the co-opting reality of politics will advance or cause adversity in living with the outcome legislatively enacted following this acrimonious carry on of recent months...........God Bless America And All The World,   Fr. Troy
