OUR OLDEST AMERICAN NEW WORLD TRADITION : THANKSGIVING DAY...........

It was 1621, A.D., in Plymouth, Massachusetts - th0at the Pilgrims and native American Indians, sat dsown at table to share a common meal of thanksgiving, which has come down to us 390 years later, as our first American Tradition, and as a day of gratitude for our blessiongs, a day of National Consecretion.  Families gather from far and wide on ThanksGiving Day and weekend, to feast, express their faith, and have fun, together each November, in remembrance of the appreciation we have for our lives and the bounty of blessings afforded to us, in good times and bad, as people of gratitude.  Attending Church on ThanksGiving Day is one sure way to focus on and express the prayerful aspect of this national feast.  Here at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, the ThanksGiving morning Mass today is at the special hour of 9:30 a.m.  For the past seventeen years in Sacramento today, the Run For The Hungry is sponsors both a 5k and 10k run or walk, to benefit the Sacramento Food Bank Family Services. founded by Reverend Father Daniel Madigan.  And ThanksGiving Day in America, is also what this year is the 85th Annual Macy's ThanksGiving Day Parade.  May you and your families make this ThanksGiving 2011, a day of gratitude, family, faith, and fun, as you sit at your own dinner tables, or perhaps help to serve ThanksGiving Dinner to the needy and less fortunate.  Leave the Christmas shopping and other extraneous activities until tomorrow and the weekend,  Make today a true Family Feast of generously Giving Thanks...........Fr.  Troy
