IF THE SUPERCOMMITTEE FAILS TO REACH AGREEMENT WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE DEFICIT...........

The Congressional Super Committee set up this summer, following the Debt Ceiling debacle, has a Wednesday November 23, deadline to complete its work in identifying ways to eliminate the federal deficit.  Today is the day they must have their work agreement completed in order that a bill to pass the legislation be ready before Wednesday's deadline.  The twelve members of the Super Committee, equally comprised of Democrats and Republicans, remain at loggerheads after several mponths of meetings and negotiations as to what cuts or tax increases to make in order to reach consensus on a deficit plan.  Therefore, their failure to propose a deficit plan will mean automatic cuts totalling $1.2 trillion, approxiomately $600 billion from the Defense budget, and $600 billion from Social Services in 2013, known as Sequestration, unless the Congress votes to negate trhe cuts.  The bottom line as to what the Super Committee's inability to reach a consensus means is that yet again the Federal Government fails to effectively address the Budget Deficit cascading into $15 trillion presently.  Ir becomes yet another of a string of plans to fall by the wayside, because members of neither political party has the backbone or the will to truly embrace the hard choices required without totally gutting the annual Budget of the United States, well into the future.  Courage; Wisdom; Resolution; Bi-partisanship; and yes, LEADERSHIP, are required from the the House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and The President, if this increasingly threatening deficit crisis is to be adequately addressed and answered.  How much longer will it take before all parties concerned realize that one of the basic definitions of politics and government in a democracy is, "Compromise" ?  In what has become a 50/50 nation politically; without compromise their can be no consensus, no solutions, no lasting means of meeting this and other major issues facing the USA and the World...........Fr.  Troy
