THE COMMUNION RITE AND CONCLUDING RITES TONIGHT'S REVISED MASS TEXTS CLASS FOCUS...........

Week 9, of OLOL's Faith Seeking Understanding series, "Understanding The Revised Mass Texts", of the new Roman Missal 3rd Edition, is focused on the Communion Rite and Concluding Rites of the Mass.  In a concise six pages, Fr. Paul Turner, a priest of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, explains wonderfully well the wording changes being made in these two crescendo and culminating rites of the revised texts Mass we will be celebrating as Catholics, beginning next Sunday, November 27th, the 1st Sunday of Advent.  Our review of the materials tonight underscored why in the Lord's Prayer at the start of the Communion Rite the ICEL translators decided to retain the old English translation, instead of a modern English usage.  Also had most of the word changes in the Sign of Peace prayers and receiving of Holy Communion, are substantially changes in the words of the priest/presider, not the people's parts.  And how the Lamb of God word text changes are much more deeply rooted.  The Concluding Rite has changed and expanded words of Commissioning at the end of Mass sending the worshippers forth, which will challenge all of us to more fully live and witness to the Gospel for the glory of the Lord.  Next Monday night we will gather for a Feedback Serssions for all our Parishioners to respond to our first experiences of celebrating Sunday Mass with the new Mass Texts of the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal in English...........Fr.  Troy
