NEW WORDS.....SAME MASS.....IN THE WORD TEXT REVISIONS OF THE ROMAN MISSAL 3RD EDITION WE BEGIN EXPERIENCING TODAY...........

As American and Canadian Catholics bein using the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal today, the words of the texts of the priest / presider, and the parishioner / worshippers, have changed substantially from the translation of the Sacramentary we have known and used for over forty years.  These word changes put the English language translation closer to the original Latin and with the French, German, Spanish, and Italian, language translations of the new Roman Missal.  Our first celebrations of Sunday Masses with the the word text revisions went pretty well.  On a scale for 1-10, I score it a 9 plus,, for initial responses, the "And With Your Spirit", response to greetings getting the most mixed response, as "Also With You", iso ingrained in our memory and response.  I felt a greater comfortability with the revised and expanded words in many of the prayers, than I expected to have proclaiming them, although their structure and complexity caused a halting feeling for me, in a few places.  I used my chapel edition of the Roman Missal at the Presider's Chair, as well as the much larger altar edition during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, so as to keep the new word texts front and center before me throughout the Mass.  As an addendum to our 'Understanding The New Mass Texts' class during the past two months, we will hold a, First Experiences of the new Roman Missal 3rd Edition Sunday Mass, feedback session tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m., in the Parish Hall.  Hopefully, a good representative group of OLOL parishioner will be present to share their initial reactions to what we began experiencing today...........Fr.  Troy
