PRESIDENT OBAMA'S POST ELECTION WHITE HOUSE MEETING WITH THE INCOMING REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP..........

The first official meeting between the President and the 111th Congress' incoming majority Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and their U.S. Senate leadership , took place this morning in The White House, to reports of a calm and civilized gathering, in which neither side gave way to the other on key issues to be decided upon, from Jobs and Economic Growth and Recovery, to the Bush Tax Cut extension, UnEmploymentment Insurance, which runs out today for 2 million Americans, ratification of the latest START Treaty with the Russians, The Don't Ask Don't Tell, expiration legislation, among many other.  Whether we will see Compromise, and the willingness to work together despite their differences, or Girdlock, and the venom of purely partisan politrics, to achieve something for the good of the American People in the next two years, is at stake.  Can a Presidential Administration thought to have been too activist and over reaching in the past two years, and a Political Party seen as being focused on saying No, and an obstacle to proposed progress, since the current occupant of The White House assumed office in January 2009, be able to work with each other  productively, in addressing the the real and vital issues  presently facing the United States ?  Can both Democrats and Republicansw disciover true bipartisanship, or achieve post partisanship ?  Politics aside, we can only hope that the common good and not only political gain governs all their actions..........For A Better America,   Fr.  Troy
