ST. LEO THE GREAT, POPE - DEFENDER OF THE FAITH AGAINST HERESY AND BARBARISM..........

Today the Church memorializes a 5th Century Pope and Doctor of the Church, who was a great defender against Heresy and in supporting the primacy of the Bishop of Rome.  HE is called Leo the Great, for not only being an ardent pastor of souls and preacher of the Christian Gospel, but for literally combatting the major heresies of Pelagianism, ( denial of original sin) and Manichaeism, ( a lack of allowing for God's Grace and placing the sole focus for a person's conduct on the exercise of Free Will)  .  Leo wrote a highly persuasive tome on the Catholic-Christian belief in the Two Natures of Jesus Christ, which ultimately was adopted by the Council of Chalcedon in 451 A.D., and refined the teaching in the Nicene Creed about Christ being fully, "true God and true Man".  St. Leo the Great was also responsible for saving Rome from being overtaken by marauding barbarian Huns and Vandals.  As a Pastor, Bishop, and Doctor, of the Church St. Leo also contributed prayers that have come down to us through the centuries in the Roman Missal, thus prayers used at Mass.  And so as we liturgically commemorate St. Leo the Great, may we too be inspired to defend, as well as practice, our Catholic-Christian Faith with steadfastness and compassion..........iN tHe Spirit of Le's Holy And  Untiring Faith And Fidelity,   Fr.  Troy
