THE SEMINAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS DATE 55 YEARS AGO...OCTOBER 28, 1958.............

Fifty five years ago today, the election by the College of Cardinals of +Angelo Cadinal Roncalli, as the Vicar of Christ, succeeding Pius XII, as the Pope of the Catholic Church; was a seminal day of significance in the History of Catholic Christianity in the World.  Today I will be reflecting here on my blog, "Insights Into Life And Faith", about the role the now Blessed, come April 27, 2014; canonized Saint Good Pope John XXIII's Election as Supreme Pontiff at age 77, and his subsequent ministry and leadership in calling and opening the Second Vatican Council, will be explored in this blog column.  With the 1958 Conclave unable to decide for the Roman Curia's choice for successor to Pius  XII, Cardinal +Ottaviani or to arrive at a two thirds plus majority for a more moderate Cardinal, they came to decide on +Roncalli, as an acceptable caretaker, given his age until the next Papal Conclave.  Yet in this world traveled Vatican diplomat, they tapped a Pope who in short order moved to bring the Church into interaction in the Modern World with hope and optimism.  Pope John XXIII, acted quickly to open the windows of the Church to the fresh  air of a, "New Pentecost", that continues to serve the needs of the Faithful and the entire World, when on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, and the last day of the annual Octave of Prayer For Christian Unity, January 25, 1959; called for the preparation of the 21st Ecumenical Council of the Church, Vatican II.  In the coming days in conclusion of the, "Year Of Faith", comemorating the 50th Anniversary of the convening of the Second Vatican Council in 1962, I will continue blogging about the milestone events set in motion on October 28, 1958, the date Blessed Pope John XXIII becams the Successor of St. Peter.............Fr.  Troy David
