ST. LUKE, PHYSICIAN.....APOSTLE.....EVANGELIST..........

Where does St. Luke, a gentile Syrian physician, fit into the apostolic community of Jesus Christ.  Luke was one of Paul's companions, who was called to the office of Apostle, and afforded the opportunity to become one of the primary Evangelists of the Christian Gospel.  He was the author of the Acts of the Apostles between the years 70-85 A.D., and wrote a Gospel, that is focused on a multifaceted audience of gentile Christians, God's mercy, universal Salvation, and the lowly, poor, and Marginalized.  While adhering to a renunciation of Sin and a priority for Prayer, Luke's Gospel is very Holy Spirit centered.  For the past year, Liturgical Year C, in the three year Lectionary cycle of the mainline Catholic--Christian Church, we have heard the Gospel of Luke proclaimed predominately on Sundays.  The Acts of the Apostles are a mainstay of the Easter Season every year.  So what have you read, heard, or learned, from the writings of St. Luke during 2010 ?  How has Luke the  Evangelist evangelized you and deepened your understanding of God's Word of mercy, universal salvation, and care and concern for the lowly, poor, and marginalized, in society and within the faith community ?  Religion, Faith, Discipleship, are about growth and conversion.  So please God, as we commemorate the apostolic ministry of St. Luke today, hopefully the proclamation of the Christian Scriptures he authored with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, will inspire and infuse into your minds and hearts a willingness to change and to be ever more respond to the Discipleship in Jesus the Christ we are called to live..........That Like St. Luke We May Give Ourselves Over To Living And True God Of All Peoples,   Fr.  Troy
