PRIESTS STUDY DAYS CONCLUDE FOR 2010.....BACK TONIGHT FOR THE QUARTERLY PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL MEETING..........

The 2010 Study Days of Sacramento Priests, at Christ the King Retreat Center in Citrus Heights concluded today at 1 pm, with Morning Prayer, a Final Presentation / Discussion, Mass and Lunch.  It was an interesting three days of introduction and overview to the new, 3rd edition of the Roman Missal, which will go into effect on the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011.  The next thirteen and a half months, being a time of preparation   of the faithful to learn and be ready to celebrate the changes the new Roman Missal will bring.  And there are very real changes in the words we will pray and be obligated to use in celebrating Mass, starting with Advent, a year from now.....At 2 pm, I joined Msgr. Kavanagh in attending the Funeral Service at Holy Spirit Church, in Sacramento's  Land Park neighborhood, for former Sacramento County District Attorney Herb Jackson.  Holy Spirit's Pastor Rev. Fr. Dan Looney presided, and Rev. Fr. John Lagomarsino, was also present.  Then I returned to OLOL, to prepare for tonight's Parish Finance Council Meeting.  As my first year transition as Pastor continues to proceed and change in Parish Bookkeeper has just been accomplished this week, this was only part one of the Fall Quarterly Meeting.  We welcomed aboard our newest Finance Council member and held the Parish Finance Council Meeting with the Pastor, I am holding with all 14 Parish Ministries during the coming Month.  The good news shared last night, being that Sunday Collections, like Mass Attendance, are up, and we are operating in the black.  And so, tomorrow I resume my regular daily parish schedule, with completion of the 2009-10 Annual Parish Final Report to the Diocese, and getting the All Souls Day mailing out to the parishioners next week, chief among them.  This Sunday is also Disability Awareness Sabbath, occasion for a special, extended, personal story homily at the 3 Sunday Masses, so this is ample work to get stuck into right away..........Peace and Prayers,   Fr.  Troy
