FROM CALIFORNIA'S MONTEREY PENNISULA TO A HOLY LAND HIGH MOUNTAINTOP..........

Californians can truly attest to the land swept, scenic beauty, of the Golden State. One of the most beautiful sights is the exclusive enclave that is the Monterey Pennisula, home to such wonderful places as Pebble Beach and Carmel. California's Carmel is perhaps the namesake of an even more historcal place bearing that name, Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. The splendor of Mount Carmel is described in the Sacred Scriptures. and it is the location where a small group of hermits originated the Carmelite religious order. Today there are 1,950 members of thE Carmelite order in the world.....In the Sacramento Diocese the Carmelite Order includes priests in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Fairfield, Solano County, and the cloistered Carmelite Sisters in Georgetown, Placer County. For many decades up until the late 1970's / early 1980's, the Carmelite Sisters nunnery was located on Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento across the street from the Sacramento County Hospital, now the UC Davis Medical Center. When Earl Warren a non Catholic, was then Governor of California more than seven decades ago, his young daughter known popoularly as, "Honeybear", took very seriously ill. She was treated medically at Mercy General Hospital and Governor Warren and his wife, specifically requested the ongoing prayers of the Carmelite Sisters for her recovery. Governor Warren personally prayed on occasion for his daughter's healing in the Carmelite chapel...... On this day each year the Church celebrates the liturgical feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Through her intercession may the spirituality and ministry of Carmelites everywhere, continue to effectively serve he faith and committment of Catholic-Christianity, and may the geographical splendor of Carmel, both in the Holy Land and here in California, continue to inspire and prompt the hearts of humankind to spiritually and loyally share in their beauty, as stewards of Creation, which God has gloriously given us to enjoy and marvel at..........Blessed Mother Mary, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel, Pray FOr Us, Fr.
