LABOR DAY MONDAY IN THE USA.....DISAPPOINTING MONDAY FOR COUNTY KILKENNY, IRELAND..........
On this Labor Day in the United States, when we as Americans take pause with a three day weekend, to honor and celebrate the dignity of human work and the productiveness of labor in our land, marking the unofficial end of summer and the start of the new school year, iy is a very disappointing day for County Kilkenny in Ireland as their hopes for a 5 on a row All Ireland Senior Hurling Final championship were dashed on Sunday, by an aggressively out playing County Tipperary team. The Final Score being Tipperary 4-17, (29 points total) to Kilkenny 1-18, (21 points total). All in all, it was a good, if not heartbreaking match, for the 81,765 fans who were present in Croke Park and millions others watching or listening in RTE. Father Oliver and I with most of Kilkenny have kept a low key day. Ours included lunch hosted in the home of Patricia and Michael Shortall, at which she served a beautiful leg of lamb abd vegetables, with fresh strawberries for dessert. Tonight we went to the Market Yard in Kilkenny City Centre, joining 1,000 people or so, in welcoming home the vanquished 2010 Cats. At THAT EVENTM i saw and heard the hottest new band, The Kikennys; who I am seriously thinking of bringing to Sacramento in 20 months time, for my 26yj Anniversary, Silver Jubilee as a peiest, celebrations. Tomorrow Msgr. Kavanagh and I head off to his mother;s side relatives in County Roscommon, for a day and a half visit..........As This Irish Holiday 2010 Continues..........Fr. Troy in Kilkenny where today the Cats and the Rain are Weeping but the USA is Hopefully Re-Energized in the Dignity of Labor.....
