REVEREND MONSIGNOR PATRICK J. O'NEILL, PRIEST OF SACRAMENTO, SINCE 1947, DIES AT AGE 88...........
Reverend Monsignor Patrick J. O'Neill, a native of South Kilkenny, in Ireland; ordained a Priest of Jesus Christ for the Sacramento Diocese, from St. Kieran's Seminary, Kilkenny; in 1947, has died at age 88, in New York, where he retired to be near relatives. Appointed Pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, in Truckee, California, near Lake Tahoe, where he ministered from 1949-1961; Father O'Neill, was appointed the Founding Pastor of South Sacramento's St. Anne's Parish, Meadowview, in 1961, and ministered there until 1974. Becoming Pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, in Vallejo, where he served until retiring in 1995, he was recognized by Pope John Paul. as an, Honorary Prelate, on May 4, 1979; becoming Monsignor O'Neill. At his passing, the senior priest of the Sacramento Diocese, who was a, "Kieran's man", alumnus of the Kilkenny, Ireland seminary. He attended both St. Kieran's secondary school and seminary, for ten years years, with Monsignor Edward J. Kavanagh, who now survives him as the senior St. Kieran's priest alumnus in Sacramento. Funeral arrangements are yet announced, but expected to take place in Vallejo............Eternal Rest Grant Unto His Holy Soul O Lord. May Perpetual Light Shine Upon. May He Rest In Peace, Fr. Troy
