FAITH SEEKING UNDERSTANDING AND THE NEW MASS TEXTS CLASS TONIGHT...........
I have spent much of the afternoon finishing up preparation for Week Two's session of the Faith Seeking Understanding adult faith formation series, "Understanding The Revised Mass Texts". Tonight the parishioners present and I, will discuss the opening pages of Father Paul's Turner's, book by that title, five pages captioned, Why and How Have The Mass Texts Been Revised ? I think they will agree he has done an excellent job of introducing and explaining the reasoning; describing it as, "New Words...Deeper Meaning, Same Mass". These pages of our text also address the revisions in the Mass, taking effect on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, based on their Biblical Roots, Faithfulness to the Latin, and the Poetic Texts, they produce. Father Turner who writes, insightfylly, "The Book we are getting, is Better than the Book we have had". He admits, "Some changes are smaller than others", and that there is concern on the part of the some Americans about changes in the English wording of the Revised Roman Missal 3rd Edition. The author also gives a very good overview of, ICEL; the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, the primary drafters of the English translation. I am hoping even more than the 24 who attended last week, will be present tonight, as we journey forward in preparing for the Revised Roman Missal 3rd Edition...........Fr. Troy
