24 ATTEND FIRST SESSION OF OLOL's "UNDERSTANDING THE NEW MASS TEXTS", OF THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL 3RD EDITION - FSU SERIES...........
Two dozen members of OLOL Parish turned out tonight for the first session of the ten week series, "Understanding The New Mass Texts", of the Revised Roman Missal 3rd Edition, which becomes the official chief liturgical book for the celebration of Masses, effective November 27, 2011. The introductory session was an overview of the reasons behind the changes we will be experiencing and a first look at the booklet from Liturgical Training Publications, (LTP) written by Father Paul Turner, a priest of the Diocese of Kansas City / St. Joseph, USA, who holds a doctorate in Sacred Theology from a Roman university, and is a facillator for ICEL, the International Commission for English in the Liturgy, who translated the New Roman Missal 3rd Edition, from Latin, the universal language in which all Catholioc Church documents are originally published; into English. At the heart of tonight's discussion being the distnction between, "dynamic equivalency", in translating texts, which is focused on emphasizing the, Meaning of the words translated; versus, "formal equivalency", which translates the words with a focus on the, Word for Word, translation of the texts. Formal Equivalecy was used in translating the 3rd Edition of the Revised Roman Missal. A very good start, to what will be a solid preparation for committed parishioners of OLOL, who want to better understand how and why, the changes are being made in our celebration of the ultimate act of Divine Worship, the Catholic Mass...........In The Spirit Of Faith Seeking Understanding, Fr.
