CATCHING UP WITH MY BODY AFTER HOLY WEEK / EASTER TRIDUUM AND A PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT...........
Easter Monday is a parish holiday, but that doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. For the most part it is a day off resting after the excelerated schedule of Holy Week and the Easter Triduum. But it is also one of readiness for tonight's Parish Finance Council meeting. We will be reviewing parish finances to date for the current Fiscal Year; and make preliminary projections for the Parish Budget 2011-2012. which takes effect on July 1. Having brought home some of the Easter Ham and side dish portions, from yesterday's dinner, that will be my dinner in the 5 pm hour, as Esperanza has the day off, before the Finance Council meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Blogging of church temporalities, it was with regret that I read the front page story in the Sacramento Bee on Saturday, about the First English Lutheran Church in Oak Park, having to sell their church building. I know that congregation and have worshipped with them. Their Interim Pastor of several years now, the Reverend Lloyd Hanson, one of the leading lights in the Sacramento Ecumenical Movement for more than 40 years, and I became friends six years ago, when we met at the Church Unity Week celebrations. Please God the necessity to sell the church edifice will not be the end of the congregation. In 2005, I was honored to join them for a Sunday Service, and to preach at Reverend Hanson's invitation.
