THE 6TH DAY OF EASTER DRAWS US EVER MORE INTO THE PASCHAL MYSTERY...........
Beyond the British Royal Wedding, I effusively blogged about yesterday and overnight until early this morning, today Friday April 29, is Easter Friday on the Catholic-Christian Liturgical Calendar, and as Easter Week is a Solemnity in its entirety, it preempts the feast day normally observed on this date. Today, the Church usually honors and remember St. Catherine of Siena, the great 14th century woman, who was a member of the Dominican Third Order, who was intellectually adept as a scholastic theologian, and was a fierce supporter of the Pope, and returning Pope Gregory XI, to Rome, from exile in Avignon, France. She along with St. Francis Assisi, are the co-Patron Saints of Italy. In 1970, she was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church. One of the initial reasons, Buckingham Palace promulgated last November, regarding the selection of this date for the day of Prince William and Princess Catherine's Wedding, was that it is the Bride's Feast Day...........Fr.
