THE 2010 UNITED STATES CENSUS.....WHAT THE NUMBERS TELL US ?..........
Today, the stastics gathered from the taking of the 2010 United States Census were released. The new Census Report places the current population of the United States of America at : 308,745,538 persons, an increase of 9.7% over Census 2000. California now totals 37.3 million persons in population. The greatest gains in nationwide population, the lowest increase since the Great Depression, was in the South and the West, led by Texas and Florida. The greatest decrease in 2010 were in New York and Ohio, as population in the Northesat and the Rust Belt declined. California's population increase of 3.4 million more people, was a decline, percentage-wise, over previous decades; and was not large enough to increase the Golden State's Congressional representation, which will remain at 53 seats in the House of Representatives, still the largest delegation in the country. California's net increase is its lowest percentage in total over one decade, since Statehood was attained in 1850. Texas, will gain 4 Congressional seats and Florida, 2 Congressional seats, whereas New York and Ohio, will each lose 2 Congressional seats, according to the 2010 Census. The largest increases throughout the country are in States with significant Latino population. In addition to Florida and Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, and California, all grew due to their enlarged Latino populations. So the State of our Union as the United States of America, is now 308,745,538 persons strong. What that number portends for the coming decade the people, politics, and policies, of the our country and circumstances and events as yet unknown to us, will determine. Please God, the will and resolve of the American citizenry shall make it a productive and beneficial ten years of the American Experience in the second decade of the 21st Century, in the 3rd Millennium of Catholic-Christianity..........Fr.
