WRAPPING UP OLOL's 1ST "FAITH SEEKING UNDERSTANDING", ADULT EDUCATION SERIES - "THE MASS EXPLAINED"...........
On this last Monday of October having celebrated Mass, had a later than usual breakfast, opened the mail, met and received the Ladies Council membership from their President, and with Bookkeeper Patty Pennington punctually present, I want to begin this blog column with a huge, Happy Birthday shout out, to my beloved South Sacramento / Elk Grove friend, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, the ever supportive, KARIN GEACH, who celebrates her Birthday today. All My Best Karin and Many Happy Returns throughout the coming year.....Today looms as an organizing day for this week and the parish All Souls Day mailing to be stuffed, labeled, and zip coded, for mailing later in the week. It is so nice to have the warm sunshine back for a few days after the soaking rain on Sunday. The rain was likely a prime suspect in suppressing turnout at the Founder's Day Root Beer Social yesterday. 43 persons attended, weathering the storm and sticking around after the 10:30 am Mass, less than fifteen of the total who attended Sunday Masses. One of Saturday night's 5 pm Mass attendees, Pauline Og, was among those 43 persons however; and she and her family are founding members of OLOL, arriving in this area in 1956, before the parish was founded on October 24, 1957. So that the observance of our Founder's Day at Sunday Masses, and the 53rd Anniversary of OLOL's Root Beer Social, lived up to their name and purpose.....Tonight, I conclude my first, "Faith Seeking Understanding", Adult Education series at OLOL, "The Mass Explained". Two dozen persons have attended this series, a hearty start for the adult faith formation offerings I intend to conduct as Pastor of OLOL, just as I have in every parish of my priestly ministry to date. We close out the current six week series with a look at the, 'Concluding Rites', of the Mass explained. As this Mass class ends, I am already working on the Parish Advent Series, which will begin 4 weeks from tonight, Monday November 29. That's it for now as I start thinking about the bulletin copy to be written for next Sunday, first thing after Mass tomorrow morning..........In Jesus The Christ, Fr. Troy
