Reverend Monsignor Andrew V. Coffey, a Priest of Jesus Christ for 63 years, nearly sixty of those years in the Sacramento Diocese, went to his eternal reward Thursday morning at age 89. Born in Dublin, Ireland on July 20, 1921, as a seminiarian, a native of County Meath, he studied at the Pontificial University of Maynooth, in Dublin, as was ordained a priest for his native diocese in June 22, 1947. For one year he served in the Navan Parish of Meath, as a Curate. Arriving on loan to the Diocese of Sacramento in the early 1948, he served as Assistant Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Chico, before being appointed Pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Winters, in 1955. Eight years later, Father Coffey was appointed Pastor of St. James Parish in Davis, and was Pastor there from 1963-1994, when he retired. On May 4, 1979, Father Coffey, was appointed as an Honorary Prelate with the title of Monsignor, by Pope John Paul II. For many years Msgr. Coffey also served as the Diocesan Director of Charismatic Renewal. He was also the driving force behind the Priests For Life Movement in the Sacramento Diocese. Funeral arrangements are pending. I will share more information and insights into Msgr. Coffey soon. Eternal Rest Grant Unto His Holy Soul O Lord And Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him..........Fr. Troy
